Linus Omark does it again

I believed in a lot of players during the Decade of Darkness who ultimately didn’t pan out. At the top of that list was Linus Omark. I was convinced the second member of H.O.P.E was going to be a star for the Oilers. It never happened, but he’s managed to carve out a niche as the hockey world’s King of Shootouts. 

I have no idea what’s going on here, but it’s fantastic. I’m guessing Omark’s KHL team, Salavat Yulaev Ufa, had some kind of pre-season game going on, and, since it’s the KHL, he was able to plan the theatrics.

This isn’t the first time Omark did something insane in the shootout. We, of course, know him best for his epic spin-o-rama goal back in 2010 in his first NHL game…

Before that, he made a name for himself scoring this insane goal in a friendly game between Sweden and Switzerland…

He carried his shootout prowess to the KHL…

Then, in 2016, he took it to the next level, lighting his stick on fire at the KHL All-Star game…

Omark had a nice rookie season with the Oilers in 2010-11, scoring 27 points in 51 games. He was never able to replicate that success, though, and ended up heading to the KHL in 2014-15. He’s managed to carve out a nice career in Europe beyond just being the shootout guy. Omark scored 55 points in 55 games for Salavat last season and seven points in four games for Sweden at the Olympics.
