Oilersnation Power Rankings: Week 5

It wasn’t necessarily the best week for our Edmonton Oilers but it also wasn’t the worst! Nonetheless, we always have something to talk about in our power rankings.
Welcome to Week 5, Nation Citizens!
#5 Romper Tyler
Alright party people, get ready because the time has come for our annual Nation Viewing Party! This year we’ll be at Campio Brewing Company to watch the Edmonton Oilers take on the Vegas Golden Knights on November 27th. Admission is $25 per person which will get you into the party with a swag bag full of Nation gear, gift cards and much more. My favourite part about this entire night is that the proceeds will be donated to our good friends at The Edmonton Humane Society to help all of the shelter animals in need.
Hockey, good food, good company and a great cause, can you ask for anything more? Actually, yes. The other day on episode 329 of the Real Life Podcast, our very own Tyler Yaremchuk committed to wearing an Oilers themed male romper to the Nation Viewing Party if we can reach $1,000 in donations to The Edmonton Humane Society. I repeat, there’s a strong chance that Tyler Yaremchuk will be wearing a male romper on November 27th.
I’d also like to take this moment to thank Spiced Oil and Surveyor Brett for always coming through for Oilersnation on Twitter. If you’re having a hard time picturing Tyler in a male romper, fear no more! We’ve got you covered.

#4 O Canada
Switching gears for a moment to soccer, who went to the Canada vs. Costa Rica game on Friday night? Talk to me in the comments! The announced attendance on the night was 48,806 and I have to say that Commonwealth Stadium was absolutely electric! For those of you who don’t know, I have a big soccer background and since I’ve been 10 years old, it’s been my absolute favorite sport to play and watch. Being at the game not only made me emotional but super proud to be a part of a community that fully showed up, embraced and supported team Canada in their quest to not only make the World Cup but to ultimately make history.
Even Canada’s head coach John Herdman told the media after the game, “I have never felt that type of intensity in a football match in Canada in my life. This crowd was just outstanding.”
Well done, Edmonton! Well done.
Now, even though Costa Rica did a great job containing Canada’s star player, we have to give big ups to Edmonton’s own, Alphonso Davies! What a pleasure it is to see the best left-back in the world (my opinion) play right in front of our eyes. At the age of 21 he’s already won a Champions League title (2020), two Bundesliga titles (2019,2020) and I have a feeling this is about to be a massive year for him, as well.
Alphonso Davies comes from a very humble beginning and has always been a proud Edmontonian. I’m sure I’m not alone in wishing Davies and the rest of this Canadian team the best of luck in the rest of their FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. See you all at the Mexico game!

Okay, let’s get back to the Edmonton Oilers, shall we? Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has quietly but effectively been going about his business all season long. He still has a league leading 17 assists, and as outrageous as this sounds, at this rate, Nugent-Hopkins is on pace for 107 points this season. I know, I know, it’s still early, but 13 games into this NHL season, and the guy keeps on producing. His sample size is growing and he has yet to regress. To put things into perspective, his highest point total ever prior to this season was in 2018-2019 when he had 69 points in 82 games. Needless to say, this kind of production early on has been a pleasant surprise from #93 and we’re all here for it!

The hottest topic this week across the NHL and Oilersnation might just be how horrible some of the officiating has been.

Okay, so should a superstar have to change his game come playoff time or should the NHL just be consistent in their officiating? Why do the rules change come playoff time, anyways? Is there any other league that just says, “let them play” like this? Personally, I think it’s annoying. I’m curious to hear what you all think, so you know where to find me in the comments section!

#1 Leon Draisaitl
Hello everyone, Leon Draisaitl has 14 goals in 13 games.
At this blazing rate, Draisaitl is on pace to score 88 times this year. Again, I know it’s early and that number will likely come down but at just over 15% of the regular season completed, the German superstar is scoring at better than a goal per game…which is absolutely mind blowing.
