Oh my goodness, what did we just witness in Game 5 between the Edmonton Oilers and the Calgary Flames?! The Battle of Alberta (playoff edition) did not disappoint one bit!
Let’s start with one of the most controversial calls of the year:
I know there’s a lot of controversy around the call but there’s absolutely no doubt that the better team won that series. What do you think, Oilersnation? Talk to me in the comments.
Okay, let’s move onto the most insane 1:11 minutes we’ve ever seen in hockey…

Flames and Oilers set an NHL record for the fastest 4 goals in a playoff game (1:11)
And then there’s this stat from Bob Stauffer that sums up the BoA very nicely for Oilers fans:
The Calgary Flames had the 3rd best Defensive team in the NHL in the regular season averaging 2.51 GAA per game. The @EdmontonOilers scored 25 goals in 5 Games. Leon Draisaitl 2-15-17 in the series. Oilers now 5-1 All-Time in the BOA. Enjoy it Oil Country!
Game 5 also happened to fall on a very important and special day…

While other fans took the time to voice their appreciation and respect for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins:
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has been an Oiler for 11 years. He’s been through more shit in Edmonton than any player I can think of. He never asked out once. Him smiling at Oilers fans, chanting to him during his media availability last night, is all I need to see. I’m so happy for him.
This BoA playoff series was so important, some pretty crazy bets were made!
Case and point: Ryan Whitney and Paul Bissonnette.
Now, please correct me if I’m wrong but this is how I think the bet went down:
If Calgary beat Edmonton in round two of the playoffs, Ryan Whitney had to pierce his ears.
If Edmonton beat Calgary in round two of the playoffs, Paul Bissonette had to shave his head.
If Edmonton beat Calgary in round two of the playoffs, Paul Bissonette had to shave his head.

Honestly the biggest s/o goes to Jay Woodcroft. If the Oilers didn’t make the coaching change that they did in the regular season, they wouldn’t be in this position right now. They have the right coach in Woodcroft who has brought the best out of these players

I’m so happy for Oilers fans! I still can’t believe what we watched yesterday. That game had a little bit of everything & the best team won that series no doubt This fan base deserves it for so many reasons (past trauma lol) but also because these fans are freaking awesome
