After improving to 6-1-0 on the season with a win over the @Philadelphia Flyers earlier this week, the Oilers will look to finish off their mini two-game homestand with a victory. They’ll welcome the struggling @Detroit Red Wings to Rogers Place tonight.
After starting the year with three wins in four games, the Red Wings have since lost three in a row and have been outscored 15-4 in that span. This is also their third game in four nights and they’ll be starting their backup @Jonathan Bernier tonight. This is a very winnable game for the Oilers who despite getting two points against the Flyers on Wednesday, got called out by their Head Coach Dave Tippett for their play. It will be interesting to see how the Oilers come out of the gates tonight. They should recognize that they’re going up against an opponent that is ripe for the picking and I would expect that Tippett’s comments after the game against the Flyers should also provide an extra spark.
I discussed all of that in today’s podcast and also touched on the Oilers soft schedule early in the season, and their lack of depth scoring through seven games.
