Welcome to the yearly wrap up of the top read articles over the last year!
There are two articles in this series that have really stood out to me.
This one, and the 23rd most-read article which was also about Joel Persson. Why did people love reading about him so much? Who knows.
But nonetheless, the 11th most-read article this year was about the 11th-hour trade deadline move that shipped Persson to the Anaheim Ducks.
The move was simple and straight forward: Persson to the Ducks for a conditional 7th-round pick in 2022 and goaltender Angus Redmond.
The condition on the deal required him to play 25 NHL games next year with the Ducks, but Persson has since signed in the SHL so the pick won’t be transferred. Redmond, meanwhile, was a RFA this offseason and Edmonton didn’t retain his services.
Here’s the article in all its short glory:
The Edmonton Oilers have traded defenceman Joel Persson to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2022 and goaltender Angus Redmond.
Persson’s trade was first reported by TSN’s Tom Gazzola.
The Oilers signed Persson, 25, this off-season to a one year contract. He appeared in 13 games for the Oilers scoring two assists before being assigned to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.
There, Persson has appeared in 27 games scoring three goals and 13 assists.
Redmond 24, has spent his season playing for the ECHL’s Newfoundland Growlers where he’s posted a 13-0-0 record and a .918 save percentage. He was signed to an entry-level contract by the Ducks on in March 2017.
According to OilersNation’s Jason Gregor, Redmond will remain in Newfoundland.
The condition on the pick requires Persson to play in 25 NHL games next season.
