Anders Nilsson Traded to St. Louis

Remember that time when Anders Nilsson had a five game winning streak early on in the season and some people thought that maybe he should be the starter only to watch him implode? That same Anders Nilsson just got traded to St Louis.
According to all mighty Bob McKenzie, it looks like the Oilers have traded Anders Nilsson to St Louis for a 4th or 5th round pick (year unspecified at this time). The Ders wasn’t here for a long time, and here wasn’t really here for a good time either. I mean, the five game winning streak early in the year was pretty sweet but he hasn’t done much since then. Frankly, getting anything for him is somewhat surprising.
I will say that I’m little bit surprised that Chiarelli traded Nilsson because I would have thought that the organization would want Brossoit playing bigger minutes in Bakersfield. In Edmonton, Brossoit will spend most of his time watching Cam Talbot. Does that help him? I’m just asking. That being said, maybe bringing Brossoit up for a 20 game taste of the good life could be exactly what he needs for the next step in his development? I’m not a wizard, I can’t predict the future.
For me, this trade is just a tease for the bigger things that are about to happen. If Chiarelli is willing to move the backup goalie, a trade that no one saw coming until this morning, then who knows who else will get cleared out for what. More change is coming, and I’d guess that there could be more of these type of minor moves before the deadline. There are a lot of dumpster fires that need to get put out, throughout the organization, and Chiarelli is starting to load up on fire extinguishing bullets.
You gotta love those magic beans.
THE TRADE **UPDATED**
I’m guessing we’ll get clarification of what exactly came from St. Louis tomorrow, but for now we can assume that the Oilers acquire a mid-grade magic bean. I would further assume that a fourth or fifth round pick would be used in other deals quicker than it would be at the draft, but what the hell do I know?
As it turns out the Oilers got another goalie prospect in Niklas Lundstrom as well as a 5th round pick in 2016. Admittedly I don’t know anything about Lundstrom but that doesn’t seem like a bad haul for a guy that hasn’t played well for the Oilers recently.
