With the matchups set for the NHL’s Conference Finals, so too have the broadcast teams, and in Edmonton, Jack Michaels and Louie DeBrusk are off the case.
Instead, for the second straight year, the duo of Chris Cuthbert and Craig Simpson will call the games between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars. Out east for the Carolina Hurricanes and Florida Panthers will be John Bartlett and Garry Galley on the call.
The good news for Oilers fans, meanwhile, is that Gene Principe will remain part of the broadcasts as the reporter.
Michaels, however, isn’t going far for those still wishing to tune in, as he shared on X Monday that he and Bob Stauffer will be calling the Oilers games together on 880 CHED.
“Appreciate the kind words from everyone watching on @Sportsnet all year—and please continue as @GenePrincipe has the West Final alongside CC & Simmer,” Michaels posted on X.
Cuthbert’s rise as a play-by-play voice came in the 1990s, working for TSN starting in 2005 staying with the network for over a decade, He joined Sportsnet in 2020, calling the Western Conference Final that year alongside Louie DeBrusk, and including Stanley Cup Finals along the way.
Last year, Cuthbert and Simpson began calling Oilers playoffs games during the second round against the Vancouver Canucks, following them to the Western Conference Final against the Stars and the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, thought Scott Oake came along as the reporter.
Game 1 between the Oilers and Stars is set for Wednesday night, while Game 2 goes Friday. Here’s a full look at the schedule:
