For the first time this season, the Edmonton Oilers have won four consecutive games.
On Tuesday evening, the Oilers played the second of four games at home, defeating the Seattle Kraken by a score of 3-0, their fifth shutout of the season. It was also the second time the Oilers have shut out the Kraken. Let’s take a look at what went on in this one!
For the third consecutive game, the Oilers opened the scoring. This time, it came five and a half minutes into the first period, as Jake Walman’s wrist shot from the point deflected off a net-front Max Jones, his third goal of the season. They don’t ask how.
With just under seven and a half minutes remaining in the first period, Kasperi Kapanen intercepted a D-to-D pass which led to a two-on-one. The Finn elected to shoot it, ripping it past Philipp Grubauer on his blocker side to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead.
Any doubt about the outcome of their game was put away with just under two and a half minutes left in the third, as Connor McDavid iced the game with an empty-netter. It was his 43rd of the season, with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picking up an assist.

Takeaways…

Max Jones has been such a breath of fresh air when he’s been in the Oilers lineup. Not only has he been a physical, energetic presence, but he’s also provided some depth scoring. In his 16 games this season, the 28-year-old has three goals and five points. He’s shown the capability to be an effective bottom six scorer, potting nine goals and 19 points in 69 games with the Anaheim Ducks in 2022-23.
Jones was one of the three forwards that made up the Oilers’ fourth line, being centred by Josh Samanski with Curtis Lazar on the right wing. The trio had a solid game in limited minutes. Their shut down third line consisted of Adam Henrique, Jason Dickinson, and Kasperi Kapanen, with that line scoring a goal.
For the fifth consecutive game, Connor McDavid found the back of the net, giving him six goals and 10 points over his last five games. Unfortunately, Matt Savoie’s goal streak ended, while Vasily Podkolzin was also held off the scoresheet.
Connor Ingram had a fantastic game, stopping all 27 shots for his second shutout of the season. Usually, you see the Oilers holding the opposing team to a limited number of shots in the third, but it was the complete opposite in this game. The Kraken outshot the Oilers 27-24, including 8-3 in the third period. It’s a nice gift for his 29th birthday.
The Oilers have killed off all nine penalties they’ve taken over their last three games. It’s been a big reason why they’ve won four straight against some pretty solid teams. Their penalty kill during the 2024 postseason was terrific and it carried them all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
This is the Oilers’ first four-game winning streak of the season. Getting to just a three-game win streak had been an issue for the Oilers this season, as they are just 2-9-2. Now in games where they have a chance to move the win streak to four, they are 1-1-0.
With the win, the Oilers moved to 85 points, just two back of the division-leading Anaheim Ducks. While the Oilers have played an additional game, they have the tiebreaker of regulation wins. It’ll be hard to overcome the point deficit with just seven games left, but weirder things have happened.
We’re in the home stretch now, with just seven games in April. First up is a home game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday at 7 p.m. MT.
