For the third time since September, Connor McDavid has been named a captain.
The first came when on September 8, 2016 when he was named captain of Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey. He helped lead the young guns to a 3rd place finish in the ‘B’ group of the tournament that saw Sweden, Russia, and Finland as the other three teams in the group. Many felt that the U-23 team was the most compelling.
On October 5th, 2016 the Edmonton Oilers named 19-year old McDavid captain, effectively making him the youngest player to ever captain a team in the NHL. This season, he has scored 43 points in 38 games and is tied for the league lead in points with Evgeni Malkin (43). He and the Oilers are currently sitting second in the Pacific Division.
Now today, the NHL announced that Connor McDavid will serve as the captain of the Pacific Division at the upcoming NHL all-star game. He led all Pacific Division players in all-star voting which earned him the ‘C’. Pittsburgh Penguin Sidney Crosby will serve as the Metropolitan’s captain, Nashville Predator P.K. Subban will serve as the Central’s captain, while Montreal Canadien Carey Price will serve as the Atlantic captain.
Los Angeles will serve as host for this year’s all-star game, which will be held from Jan. 27-29. This year’s all-star game will be just like last year’s, which featured the 3-on-3 tournament.
