Another notch on the belt for one of the best players in the world.
On Thursday night, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid notched the 725th even-strength point of his already decorated NHL career. The point moved him solely into second place all-time in even-strength points in franchise history, surpassing Hockey Hall of Famer Jari Kurri.
The point came in thanks to a goal 10 seconds in the third period of Tuesday night’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
McDavid accomplished the feat a little faster than Kurri. The Finnish legend reached the mark in his 754 games as an Oiler, while No. 97 reached the milestone in 742 games.
The 28-year-old still has many years to rack up more points, but he has a long way to catch the Oilers’ all-time leader in even-strength points, Wayne Gretzky. The Great One notched 1,122 points at 5-on-5 in… 696 games (Yeah, he truly was something else).
It’s another milestone that McDavid has hit this season. On Nov. 3, the Richmond Hill, Ont. native posted the 1,100th point of his NHL career in his 726th game, becoming the fourth-fastest player to reach the mark — only Mike Bossy (725 games), Mario Lemieux (550) and Wayne Gretzky (464) did it faster.
McDavid’s attack on offensive milestones shows no signs of slowing down. With 1,124 overall points, the five-time Art Ross Trophy winner is second all-time in franchise scoring, only trailing Gretzky, who posted 1,669 points in his nine NHL years with the club. He’s also second on Edmonton’s assists list, with his 749 apples trailing No. 99’s 1,086. McDavid is also sixth on the franchise’s goal-scoring list with 375 tallies.
In the first 10 years of his NHL career, McDavid has won the Hart Trophy three times, the Ted Lindsay Award four times, while also capturing the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy in 2022-23. He also won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2024, when Edmonton fell to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.
So far this season, McDavid has 16 goals and 28 assists for 46 points in 29 games. He sits third in the league in points, and is tied for the most assists with San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini.
