It was the news we all knew was coming, but that doesn’t make it any easier to take. Connor McDavid will undergo surgery to repair a broken clavicle and will be out of the lineup indefinitely.
For Oilers fans everywhere the news that Connor McDavid is out feels like a punch to the gut. Depending whom you ask, the recovery for this type of injury varies from six to 12 weeks depending on the type of damage suffered to the surrounding areas. If you take Pete Chiarelli at his word, doctors know exactly what needs to be done and the Oilers won’t be losing McDavid for the season. The best case scenario would be that McDavid recovers quickly and can return to the lineup sometime in late December/early January.
It goes without saying that this injury is absolutely devastating for the Oilers, but they will have to move forward. While having Connor McDavid on the shelf for months certainly hurts the Oilers chances at improving in the standings, I think we can all be happy that it’s a collarbone injury and nothing involving the head. As bad as it sucks to lose him, the injury could have been much worse considering the speed at which he hit the boards. All we can do now is hope his childlike bones still have the ability to heal at a childlike pace.
Get well soon, Connor. We, along with hockey fans everywhere, will miss you.

WHAT PETE SAID…
