Connor McDavid has taken down the NHL All-Star games skills competition, taking home the top prize of $ 1 million.
In order to do so, McDavid and a number of other players competed in a number of different events: the fastest skater, the one-timer challenge, the passing challenge, the hardest shot, stick handling, accuracy shooting, the one-on-one and an obstacle course.
McDavid kicked things off in the fastest skater competition by beating Mathew Barzal by 0.111 seconds to finish first. For McDavid, it was his sixth time doing the fastest skater, winning it three times previously in 2017 (13.02 seconds), 2018 (13.454 seconds) and in 2019 (13.378 seconds. This time around, he completed it in 13.408 seconds.
The next contest he competed in was the passing challenge, but he struggled finishing with 10 points in that contest, which was good enough for ninth among 11 contestants.
Then, it was the stick-handling contest, where, no surprise, McDavid dominated. He finished first, completing the contest in 25.755 seconds, 1.174 seconds faster than the second-placed Barzal.
He won the accuracy shooting contest, hitting all four targets on four shots doing so in 9.158 seconds. He narrowly edged out Auston Matthews’ 9.341 seconds.
In the one-on-one contest, he took on Colorado Avalanche goaltender Alexander Georgiev, notching just three points, finishing seventh out of eight. And while he may have struggled there, he cooked in the final competition of the night, beating the obstacle course in 40.606 seconds, well above the second-placed Cale Makar’s 43.435 seconds.
McDavid’s teammate Leon Draisaitl competed in the skills competition, too, but didn’t see as much success. He competed in the one-timer contest, finishing third of eight, and the passing challenge, finishing eighth of 11. He drew in for the stick handling competition, finishing fifth of nine, as well as the accuracy shooting contest, where he finished dead last struggling to pick his spots.
