Edmonton Oilers defenceman Caleb Jones says he had tested positive for COVID-19 during a media call Friday.
The young defenceman said when he arrived in Edmonton a few weeks ago, he tested positive for the virus but was asymptomatic.
Jones said he had “no idea where (he) got it” and remained asymptomatic.
One of the big storylines this week at the start of training camp was that Jones had been deemed unfit to play as his Oilers teammates took to the ice Monday. No information was given, but head coach Dave Tippett had said this week he was hopeful Jones would be able to join the team’s main group soon.
That happened today as Jones took reps both in the team’s main group and secondary group.
Jones says he has since recovered from the virus and is “glad to be healthy and feeling good back on the ice.”
