From No. 75 to No. 2, Evan Bouchard is donning a fresh jersey.
The Edmonton Oilers announced Tuesday morning that Bouchard would be changing the threads on his jersey.
Bouchard has worn 75 since he joined the Oilers in 2018, but he’s got deep roots with the number 2. Back in his OHL days playing for the London Knights, number 2 was what he wore during his tenure there. Over his 223-game career that saw him captain two of four of his seasons, Bouchard scored 54 goals and 201 points.
Most recently, the number was worn by Duncan Keith during his final NHL season. In total, 14 players have worn 2 in Oilers history:
- Lee Fogolin, 1980-87
- Jim Ennis, 1988
- Chris Joseph, 1988-1994
- Bob Beers, 1994
- Boris Mironov, 1995-99
- Brett Hauer, 2000
- Igor Ulanov, 2000
- Eric Brewer, 2001-04
- Matt Greene, 2006-08
- Aaron Johnson, 2010
- Jim Vandermeer, 2011
- Jeff Petry, 2013-15
- Andrej Sekera, 2016-19
- Duncan Keith, 2021-22
Number 2 served Bouchard well during his major junior days.
This is the first of what I imagine will be a few jersey number swaps. We’re still waiting to officially see which number Jack Campbell will wear, although, the number 36 he donned in Toronto is currently used by Dylan Holloway.
