The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Ilya Konovalov to a two-year entry level-contract.
Konovalov, 22, was drafted by the Oilers in the 3rd round of the 2019 draft and has seen a ton of success playing in the KHL. In 111 regular season games over the last four years, he’s posted a 53-41-9 record, a .922 save percentage, a 2.14 GAA along with 14 shutouts.
A native of Yaroslavl, Russia, the young goalie got thrusted into Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s starting role in the 2018-19 season at 19 years old. He stood on his head that draft year, posting a 25-15-1 record and a .930 save percentage. Over this whole KHL career, his save percentage never dipped below a .912.
This last season, he posted a 9-7-2 record, a .923 save percentage and a 2.29 GAA.
He’s largely flown under the radar in the last number of years, but projects to be a goalie who could be a starter for the team down the road.
