Edmonton Oilers reveal new jersey numbers for 2026-27 season

We now know what jersey numbers the newest members of the Edmonton Oilers will wear this season. The Oilers’ social media team posted the backs of the five jerseys online on Tuesday morning.

Shakir Mukhamadullin will wear No. 85, the same jersey number he wore with the San Jose Sharks. It has been worn by four players in franchise history, most famously by Petr Klima in parts of five seasons. Liam Reddox, Martin Marincin, and Cam Dineen have also worn the uncommon number.

Ryan Shea will wear No. 6 this upcoming season. In Pittsburgh, Shea wore No. 5, but that number is taken by Oilers’ returning defenceman Connor Murphy. Twenty-one different Oilers have worn No. 6 dating back to 1980, including Jeff Beukeboom, Ryan Whitney, and Adam Larsson. The last one was Ben Gleason in 2024.

Frederik Andersen will wear No. 30 in 2026-27. The Stanley Cup champ has worn No. 31 throughout his NHL career in stops in Anaheim, Toronto, and Carolina. That isn’t a possibility with Grant Fuhr’s number retired, so Andersen will return to No. 30, a number he grew up with in Denmark, through to the AHL with the Norfolk Admirals. Calvin Pickard wore it for the last three seasons, but Bill Ranford would be the best Oilers example of a No. 30.

Devon Levi will don No. 27 in the Oilers crease. That’s been his number throughout his career, a fairly unusual choice for a goaltender. Ron Hextall is one of the few historical netminders to wear No. 27, as well as Gilles Meloche. Dave Semenko, Georges Laraque, Milan Lucic, and Brett Kulak are some of the more famous Edmonton examples.

Mathieu Joseph will wear No. 21 in Edmonton’s lineup. He’s worn several numbers through his junior and professional career, including 7, 17, 21, and 71. Joseph last wore No. 21 during his time with the Ottawa Senators from 2022-2024. Trent Frederic was the last to wear the number in 2025, but he switched to No. 10 ahead of the 2025-26 season.

So far, it doesn’t appear there will be any other jersey number changes.
