The Edmonton Oilers will not be getting a chance to select Alexis Lafreniere after the New York Rangers won the draft lottery Monday night.
The Rangers drew the ball to select first overall meaning the Oilers hold the 14th overall draft pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
After being dispatched by the Chicago Blackhawks in the qualifying round, losing out on Lafreniere is certainly less than ideal. Nonetheless, the Oilers will have a chance to draft a great player at 14th overall in what’s being considered to be a deep NHL draft.
The last time the Oilers held the 14th overall was in 2004 when they drafted goaltender Devan Dubnyk.
Us here at OilersNation are starting work on draft profiles and will soon break down everyone who could be available.
