The Edmonton Oilers have waived defenceman Slater Koekkoek.
Koekkoek, 27, has appeared in 19 games with the Oilers this year scoring four points.
He has been in and out of the lineup for the better part of the year and was out for a month between the middle of November and December. He was injured in a Nov. 18 game against the Winnipeg Jets.
Koekkoek had finished his check on Evegeny Svechnikov near the benches, but fell awkwardly and his leg appeared to twist. While he was forced to miss a month of action, he’s played in eight games since then scoring three points.
In his 19 games, at 5×5 Koekkoek has posted a 48.61 CF%, 52.17 GF% and a 43.4 xGF%.
Now in his second year with the Oilers, Koekkoek signed a two-year contract with an AAV of $925,000 this past offseason.
