The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed goaltender Mike Smith to a two-year contract extension.
The deal, first reported by PuckPedia, is worth an AAV of $2.2-million.
Year one of the deal is worth a base salary of $1.9-million and $2.5-million in year two.
The move locks in the backup spot for the Edmonton Oilers for the next two seasons. Smith posted a .923 save percentage in 32 games last year for the Oilers.
It was an incredible year for Smith as he played some of the best hockey of his career. He posted a tremendous 21-6-2 record in those 32 games last year and was a key cog in helping the Oilers wheel spin.
The term of the deal helps give Smith the security he and his family was likely looking for. The hope is that Smith is able to give the Oilers some strong games next season in a backup role and the Oilers now need to turn their eye towards filling the starting role in free agency.
