The Edmonton Oilers director of player development Scott Howson has been selected as the American Hockey League’s president and CEO.

The new job will take effect on July 1st this year and will replace David Andrews, who is retiring after 26 years.

Howson has been with the Oilers organization for nearly two decades in total having served in a variety of roles. Hired in 1994 as the general manager of the Cape Breton Oilers, Howson oversaw the franchises move to Hamilton in 1996 and held onto the role until 2001.

He was then hired as an assistant to the general manager in 2000, and was promoted to assistant general manager between 2001-2007.

He was hired by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2007 as the club’s general manager, and returned to the Oilers in 2013 as a pro scout. Between 2013 and now, Howson worked as senior vice-president of hockey operations and took over as head of player development in 2017-18.
