The Edmonton Oilers have signed forward Connor Brown to a one-year contract extension.

The deal carries a $1-million AAV, according to PuckPedia, who first reported the deal.

Brown joined the Oilers ahead of the 2023-24 season, signing a one-year deal that carried a cap hit of just $775,000. But his deal had a performance bonus of $3.225-million that raised the AAV to $4-million, so long as he played in 10 games.

He would do that and then some, appearing in 71 games, scoring four goals and 12 points.

Heading into the season, Brown was coming off an ACL tear and in hindsight, the expectations for him were set too high, and it wasn’t realized how much of a curve there would be for him to overcome. He stuck with his game, and the Oilers stuck with him, and on March 13th, in his 55th game of the season, he scored his first goal of the season, with fans giving him a minutes-long standing ovation.

It was a huge moment for Brown and the team, and in the remaining 16 games of the regular season, he’d add another trio of goals.

All being said, it would be the table setter for a big playoff performance from Brown. While he didn’t dress for the Oilers in their first-round matchup against the Los Angeles Kings, he would play in 19 games through the remainder of the postseason, scoring two goals and six points. Half that production, mind you, came in short-handed situations scoring a goal and two assists as he and Mattias Janmark were firing on all cylinders.

According to HockeyViz.com, Brown contributed offence at a five percent rate below league average, defence at a one percent rate below league average, and penalty kill at a four percent rate above league average.
