Nygard, 27, was signed by the club this past offseason to a one-year deal. Currently out rehabilitating a broken hand, Nygard has scored three goals and six assists in 33 games for the Oilers this year.
A bottom-six option for the Oilers, Nygard has brought with him a strong mix of speed and forechecking ability that has seen him effective in a checking line role.
He’s mixed in a bit of offense for the Oilers, too, despite only playing just under 11 minutes a night. Analytically, Nygard has posted below-average 5v5 possession numbers (44.88 CF%) and a strong expected goals rate at 53.28%.
Nygard’s most common linemate this year has been @Riley Sheahan, who he’s played 122 5v5 minutes with.
Details of the contract have yet to be announced.

Nygard's possession numbers aren't great, but he's second among Oilers forwards in xGF% (53.28) and offers up great isolated impacts. Something something small sample size, but worth keeping him around for another year. pic.twitter.com/HfHS2XqVBZ
