Back in March, the Edmonton Oilers signed winger Jere Sallinen. Although he is a Finn, Sallinen was playing in the KHL—part of Finland’s entry in that league, Jokerit. He went 50gp, 8-11-19 in the KHL and will push for NHL employment this fall. Although there is a real chance he starts in Bakersfield, Finnish Oilers often make if to the NHL, if only for a time. Since the March signing, Peter Chiarelli turned his attention to NCAA players and shored up the pro ranks over a few weeks. There are still some interesting Euro free agents, some of them on display at the Worlds right now. Will the Oilers go shopping again?

POSSIBLE ADDITIONS FROM EUROPE

  • C Vadim Shipachyov, St. Petersburg (KHL). He is 29 and having a monster WHC (leads scoring currrently. Elite Prospects: Shipachyov is a skilled center with excellent on-ice vision. He skates
very well and with a fluid stride. Owns great offensive instincts and
likes to have the puck on his stick. Could improve his all-around game.
Isn’t overly efficient in physical battles.Source
  • R Alexander Radulov, CSKA Moscow (KHL). Also, 29, not playing at WHCs but had a strong KHL season. A very famous player, famous enough for his imminent return to make news. Elite Prospects: A tremendously skilled winger, Radulov is a treat to watch. He has
excellent puck control and playmaking ability, and can rip hard wrist
shots in full flight. A true game-breaking forward. Source
  • L Nikolai Prokhorkin, Salavat Yuleav (KHL). He is 22, a big winger, and someone who was mentioned as a possible trade option to Edmonton at the deadline. The deal (as I recall) was Justin Schultz and Teddy Purcell to LAK for a package that included the big Russian. Source
  • R Yevgeni Dadonov, St. Petersburg (KHL). A 27-year old skill winger enjoying a big WHCs this spring (4gp, 3-5-8). There were rumors surrounding him signing with an NHL team earlier this spring, and we could see something break after WHCs. Source.
  • R Peter Mueller, Malmo Redhawks (SHL). Now 28, he is a big winger with skill who has had some injury issues along the way. When he was in the NHL (297 games) skill was never an issue and he does fit the general Chiarelli template. Source
