Another series is upon us: the Edmonton Oilers and the Vegas Golden Knights will meet in the second round of the NHL playoffs.
Recently, the Oilers shushed doubters by defeating the L.A. Kings in six games, a series in which some believed it was finally the Kings’ turn to find victory in the first round. Fans in Edmonton are now feeling more confident about their team’s chances heading into this rematch with Vegas.
“Oil in 5. No chain, no lock. This train don’t stop.” – Tyler Mulek via X“Oilers in 5. Maybe 6. Oilers lose first game and win the next 4 maybe lose 1 more.” – Tacanmj via X“Oilers in 5. I think they’re on a roll, and they keep it going. Vegas punches back in G3/4, but it’s too little too late. Adin Hill has lost his voodoo edge on the Oil.” – McJesusSaves via X
As I scour around social media, the common prediction I’ve noticed is Oilers in six or five games, which is a safe prediction. Game 7 sounds scary enough, and a sweep is often too bold to predict.
“Oilers in 4 if the Korean Senior Harmonicas show up.” – Bill Witzke via Facebook“With the bottom-six clicking at the right time now, the top-six with their explosive power and Pickard on his game, I say the Oilers in 6 as well!!” – Sheldon Albrecht via X“Depends what version of the Oilers shows up. Will either be Golden Knights in 4 or Oilers in 6.” – Andrew Connell via Facebook“Definitely has the potential to go 6 or 7 games. Vegas is sound in all aspects, and we know Adin Hill can turn it on in net. They are deep, strong, fast and will be tough to beat. Looking forward to the boys taking it to them, and seeing some big production from Draisaitl and McDavid in this series… hopefully Picks continues to roll and if required, Skinner has some game back.” – Kees Rutten via Facebook“Oilers in 5. They’ll split first two, take both at home, and then win in Vegas.” – t_lee_1981 via Instagram“Oilers in 5. It’s going to be a revenge series.” – Panpanaegipanpan via Instagram
Many of these predictions come from the Oilersnation comment sections across social media, which is why we haven’t seen many naysayers. However, some aren’t sure if Edmonton has what it takes to beat the Golden Knights.
“The Oilers’ defence and goaltending fall apart, Vegas in 6.” – A2M via X“Gonna be a tough series now that the oilers are getting offence from all four lines. Can they just keep bouchard and nurse on 26+ min a night?. Knights in 7.” – Loo-Kang via X“Umm if they play defense like they did against Los Angeles, Eichel and the Knights will make quick work of them.” – Daniel Redman via Facebook“My heart says Oilers in 6, but my brain tells more Knights in 6.” – Juan Jurado via Facebook
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it doesn’t favour the Edmonton Oilers. What we can all agree on is that this will be another hard-fought series for either team to advance to the Western Conference final.
