I really hate to be the bearer of bad news, but four years ago today the Edmonton Oilers traded Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson.

And somehow, it wasn’t even the craziest news of the day given the Montreal Canadiens traded PK Subban for Shea Weber and Steven Stamkos announced he was staying in Tampa Bay.

But it somehow couldn’t beat the fact that Peter Chiarelli traded Taylor Hall for Adam Larsson. It’s a dead horse that’s been beaten over and over, but it remains one of the worst trades league-wise in a long, long time.

Hall has gone on to be very successful scoring at a pace better than he had in Edmonton that included a 93-point 2017-18 Hart Trophy winning season.

Adam Larsson has been a fine second pairing defenceman, but the depreciation of the asset that was Hall had a massive impact on the Oilers roster.

Sure, the Oilers have made the playoffs once since the deal, but Hall has only played in the playoffs once in that time frame too.

There’s a chance that Taylor Hall could sign with the Oilers as a free agent this offseason, but as has been written about it could be tough to make the numbers work.

Nonetheless, it’s been a long four Hall-less years in Edmonton.
