Calgary is already in mid-season form!

On Friday evening, the Edmonton Oilers took on the Calgary Flames, beating their Alberta rivals 2-1 in overtime. This was hilarious, as Calgary brought their A-team, while Edmonton had like six players expected to make the team.

Oilersnation’s Player of the Game: Dylan Holloway
The 22-year-old forward was all over the place Friday evening, and was by far Edmonton’s best skater.
It started with a chance in the first period, beating his defender in a foot race and getting a good shot off.

The former first-round pick scored the game-tying goal with a just over a minute and a half remaining in the game, sending it to overtime.

Last season with the Oilers, the 22-year-old scored three goals and nine points in 51 games. In the American Hockey League, he scored seven goals and 10 points in 12 games. He should get in quite a few games this season with Edmonton.
<h1>Things worth mentioning…</h1>
Jack Campbell had a fantastic game Friday, saving 33 of the 34 shots he faced. The 2022-23 season was a rough one for the 31-year-old goaltender, as he had an .888 save percentage and a 3.41 goals against average, but this game was a step in the right direction.
What was the Flames’ replay team doing? Picture this, your team is up 1-0 with under three minutes left in the game. Your team scores a goal, but it’s waived off due to clear goaltender interference. With time winding down in the game, do you A) let it go and attempt to close out the game, or B) decide to challenge the very obvious goaltender interference call, thus putting the other team on the power play. Calgary chose the second option, and it cost them the game.

Brad Malone scored the game-winning goal in overtime on a breakaway. Some how, this will be the 34-year-old’s seventh season in the Oilers organization, which is absolutely insane. Last year with Bakersfield, he scored four goals and 21 points in 41 games. Seth Griffith, who led Edmonton’s AHL team in points (17 goals, 60 points in 72 games) had the assist on the goal. Pretty good depth.
