Another disappointing loss from the Edmonton Oilers.

On Thursday evening, the team took on the Philadelphia Flyers, which wasn’t good. The Flyers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period before an Edmonton goal gave the Oilers very brief life. The game was all but over once Sean Walker buried a shorthanded goal on a partial breakaway. Cam Atkinson’s goal in the third period sealed Edmonton&#8217;s fate, with the team falling 4-1 and dropping to a 1-3 record.
The Flyers aren’t necessarily a pushover, as they are now 3-1 on the season. However, their 31-38-13 record in 2022-23 was third worst in the Eastern Conference, so this is a team that Edmonton should be beating.
However, there were similarities between this game and the Oilers’ season opener. The weaker team, in this case, the Flyers, were hungrier for the win, beating Edmonton to lose pucks and dictating the play. Aside from their blowout of the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, Edmonton just hasn’t looked good this season, and there’s even a case that Jack Campbell goalie’d the Predators.
The Oilers cannot afford to have a weak start. They have a tendency of not playing so great in November and December before heating up in the new year. However, they have benefited from a hot start in the past couple of seasons, which has helped them push for the Pacific Division title.
If they continue their rough start to the season, they could be in a rough position come time for a post-season push.

He is currently tied with McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins for second on the team in points, with Leon Draisaitl in the lead with seven. Aside from Evan Bouchard’s four assists, Warren Foegele is the only other player with more than a point.
The Oilers are back in action on Saturday against the Winnipeg Jets at 8:00 PM MDT. They need a win in a big way.
