They still need to finish the regular season, and the biggest story line tonight, and arguably the only one, will be Nathan MacKinnon&#8217;s quest to become only the 12th player in NHL history to score 140 points in a season.</p>

We saw the same thing last night with Kucherov and Tampa Bay when he picked up his 100th assist of the season. We also saw the disappointment of Auston Matthews and his Toronto teammates when he came up one goal shy of 70. He is still only the 10th player to score 69 goals in a season but missing out on 70 goals was disappointing for him. MacKinnon is currently one of only 15 players to score 138 points. Peter Stastny and Bobby Orr finished with 139 points while Paul Coffey tallied 138. He&#8217;s in elite company already, but there is something different about reaching the round number threshold.</p>
<p>Then you add in how Colorado has struggled recently. They lost 6-2 in Edmonton two weeks ago, then lost 7-4 to Dallas, got crushed 7-0 by Winnipeg and blew a third period 3-0 lead and lost 4-3 to Vegas in overtime. They would love nothing more than to see MacKinnon reach 140 points and end their season with a victory.</p>
<p>The Oilers have very little to play for other than pride, and you can argue staying healthy is more important than pride in this game. The outcome tonight will have zero impact on how the Oilers perform in the playoffs. Tonight&#8217;s lineup won&#8217;t reflect what you see next week, and even with a full lineup, the playoffs are a new season. The Oilers won their final nine games last year, and actually went 14-0-1 in their final 15, but it didn&#8217;t get them the Stanley Cup.</p>
