I have a new video series up and running just in time for the Oilers’ offseason! Once or twice a week I will dig into the biggest questions surrounding the team in ‘GIANT Offseason Questions’ brought to you by Sherwood Ford The Giant! This week, I took a look at a topic that I actually wrote an article a few days ago: is buying out Zack Kassian a smart move for the Edmonton Oilers?
There are some layers to this. The team desperately needs cap space but they already have two buyouts on their books and should be careful about adding a third. Buyouts should always be considered a last resort and the team should do everything in their power to avoid racking up dead cap space but in this instance, the Oilers may not have any other choice. GM Ken Holland has a long list of things he needs to do this summer in order to improve the team and if he wants to accomplish it all, he’ll need cap space. The easiest way to do that may involve going the buyout route for a second straight summer.
I shared my full thoughts in the video that’s up now on The Nation Network YouTube Channel! Don’t forget to hit that subscribe button as well!
