Boston Bruins and Edmonton-born forward Jake DeBrusk has made a sizeable donation to the cities SportCentral.
SportCentral, who provides sports equipment at no cost to kids in need in Edmonton, was the benefactor of a $25k donation from DeBrusk that included new skates, helmets and sticks.
“It’s not just about what it means to us, but what it means to the kids we put this equipment on,” Sheldon Oleksyn, executive director at SportCentral said to CTV.
“It’s about getting into the game and not restricting kids because they can’t afford it. The goal here is that every kid that wants to play, let’s get them on the ice.”
DeBrusk isn’t the first local NHLer to donate to SportCentral, either. In the past both Colton Parayko and Nick Holden have made contributions to the program.
“They know that these institutions gave them their start and helped them along and they really want to give back and give other kids the opportunity to do the same thing as them,” Oleksyn told CTV.
“These guys give us equipment because they just want the kids to enjoy and love the game that they love.”
