‘Is Dickinson an Oilers legend already?’ Oilers fans react to big Game 1 win over Ducks

It was just as we all expected, an Edmonton Oilers centre returned from injury just in time for Game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs and scored two big goals.
That man’s name is Jason Dickinson.
Monday night was pure Oilers hockey, from the team up 2-0 to blowing the lead and eventually rallying from behind to win it late in the third period. With all the pandemonium, fans had plenty to say online. Comments were selected from X, Oilersnation’s Facebook, the Anaheim Ducks’ Facebook page, and the NHL’s Instagram page.
Is Dickinson an Oilers legend already? – Lance Kane via X3 depth goals for the Oilers in game 1 of the playoffs. That’s bad news for everyone else. Also sick D by Gudas on that goal – Empty Netters via XStill can’t believe the Oilers won because they have a history of laying some real rotten eggs in the first round … before they get their game going. – btcbourne via XWho needs playoff Janmark when you have playoff Kapanen – Jimothy McGill via X
The Oilers dynamic duo that everyone was expecting to win us this game: Jason Dickinson and Kasperi Kapanen – Kamil Dharshi via FacebookPretty lucky to win a game and only were half into it. We need full 60 min effort not 30 let’s be better game 2 we need to be up! The game winning goal was all Draisaitl effort, he was relentless! – Cindy Harder via FacebookDickinson gross, Davo gross, but trying to do too much, Drai super good for the first game back, Hyman great, Ekholm really good, but Bouchard had a rough one. Forcing passes, poor coverage, turnovers, high-risk, medium-reward plays, I love Bouchard, but we need better games from him. – Anderson_Fischer44 – via InstagramJason Dickinson and Kapanen are what McDavid and Draisaitl dream to be. – Ethan.brandtt via Instagram
It was an exhilarating game to watch if you were a fan of the Edmonton Oilers; however, from the other side, Ducks fans got to experience what the playoff Oilers are all about, with some criticism towards the officials.
Ducks absolutely blew this. The last 10 minutes of the 3rd period was not it! The refs aren’t going to let McDavid lose… – TMacDaddyHub via XRefs vs Ducks Talk to ur refs about when and when not to blow the whistle. No call of too many on the ice but as soon as a clean hit lands and ducks still have possession of puck, you want to blow the whistle. F**k ur refs – Joe042200 via XBailed tf out. They ain’t making it out of the West. – TheHurricaneBen via XThe NHL not letting McSilver lose in the first round? Nobody is shocked. – sneakypanther07 via XGreat showing from Ducklings. If the too many men is called at 2min, oilers never score the 4th. Onto game 2 Wednesday to tie that up. LGD. – Mikhael Bohin via FacebookGoing to be a fun series! More offense less defense would’ve paid off in the 3rd. Refs calling that play dead after the hit on Hyman was some bs lol. Down 1-0 but Henrique & Hyman are hurt. – Michael Rawson via FacebookRefs won that fo them. – Brandon.palafox23 via InstagramLeague had money on Oilers. – Kilooscar86 via Instagram
It’s easy to feel cheesed off or slighted after your team nearly completes a comeback, only to fall short and lose. Ducks fans should be proud of what their young players accomplished, but in any sport, there’s always finger-pointing at the refs when things don’t go your way.
The two teams are back at it Wednesday night in Edmonton for Game 2, with the Oilers leading the series 1-0.
