Jets vs Oilers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Wednesday’s scoring outburst was certainly welcomed by the Oilers, who have struggled to generate consistent offense in recent weeks. The team potted just four total goals while opening its three-game road trip with a pair of losses, and had scored more than three goals in just two of its previous 10 contests.
While Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl extended their respective point streaks, it was rearguard Tyson Barrie who led the attack. Listed as questionable going into Wednesday’s action after leaving Monday’s 4-3 loss to the Flames, Barrie showed no signs of lingering injury while tallying four assists to take over the league lead in scoring among defensemen with 28 points.
The Oilers’ offensive resurgence is timely as they prepare to face the high-powered Jets. However, the team has work to do to improve on their record when closing out a stretch of three games in four nights after posting losses in each of their past two, and falling to defeat on three of seven occasions so far this season.
Edmonton has also struggled to produce steady winning results when facing the Jets. The Oilers have earned the split in four meetings with Winnipeg so far this season, with each of those wins coming by a single goal. However, they have failed to record consecutive wins while going 4-7-2 in 13 matchups since December 2016.
That’s good news for the Jets, who kick off a crucial seven-game road trip on Thursday as +120 underdogs at sports betting sites. The Jets pack their bags once again after wrapping up a two-game homestand with a 4-3 overtime win over Montreal on Wednesday. The team is currently amid a lengthy run of 14 games that features 12 away contests, but Winnipeg has fared reasonably well on the road of late going 6-2-1 in its past nine, including a split of two dates in Edmonton in mid-February.
High scoring has also been the norm in recent contests. The Jets have averaged 3.50 goals per game over their past eight contests, but have also surrendered the same number of goals during that stretch. That has provided bettors with a 8-0 run for the OVER in totals betting.
