The @Edmonton Oilers have officially placed forward @Joakim Nygard on the Injured Reserve list and recalled defenseman William Lagesson.
The announcement about Nygard was expected, as it was revealed earlier today that he had been diagnosed with a broken rib, and would be sidelined for 2-4 weeks. Lagesson finds himself called up to the big club from the @Bakersfield Condors after @Joel Persson was held out of last night’s 6-3 win against the @Philadelphia Flyers and replaced with @Brandon Manning after it was revealed that he had been placed in the NHL’s concussion protocol.
Lagesson has yet to play in an NHL regular season game, and has 1 assist in two games with the Condors so far this season, but had a decent output last season, recording 27 points in 67 games in 2018-19.
Though the Oilers are down a right-shot defenseman with the loss of Persson, the left-shooting Lagesson was called up ahead of right-shooting @Evan Bouchard, which appears to be in line with GM Ken Holland’s mandate for not calling up any young prospects too soon.
The Oilers face-off against the @Detroit Red Wings tomorrow at Rogers Place, before heading on another two-game road trip.
