From the world of home decor to the world of restauranteering, Lauren Kyle, the wife of Oilers captain Connor McDavid, appears ready for a new challenge that would set further roots in the City of Edmonton.
With a decor studio in the west end of Downtown, the entrepreneur teased on Instagram Monday night that she would be opening another business downtown: a bar.
“New business venture well in the works… coming soon Edmonton 👀,” she posted on her Instagram.
The post contained some teasers of the establishment, located at 10126 100 St. NW in a historic building, the Canada Permanent Building, which included signs on the front of the building. One of which read “Trove Living,” an indication is could be a part of a bigger brand, with “curating timeless elegance.” According to the sign, the bar is set to open in spring 2025.
Kyle’s teaser post included some blueprints for the bar, which featured a lounge, kitchen, board room and office.
The Canada Permanent Building was built in 1909 and designed by architect Ronald W. Lines, who also designed other notable buildings in the city including the Union Bank Building, Alex Taylor School and Strathcona Collegiate Institute, according to the Province of Alberta. While Lines lost his life in World War I in 1916 at 39 years old, many of the buildings he designed have stood the test of time.
This building in particular, as noted by the Province, “is a striking and rare example of Edwardian Baroque architecture in Edmonton” with it being “apparent in its grand proportions and rich ornamentation.” The design style was used typically for buildings with significance, and was a testament to “Canada Permanent’s optimistic outlook on Edmonton’s and Alberta’s future.”
Edmonton’s future is bright with McDavid as the Oilers’ superstar, too. The face of the franchise, he played a huge part in getting the team to the Stanley Cup finals in 2024 for the first time in nearly two decades, and the team will remain in contention for the NHL’s top trophy as long as he is here.
McDavid will enter the final year of his eight-year, $12.5-million per year contract he signed on July 5th, 2017, and with his “ride or die” Leon Drasiaitl having just extended for eight years himself last summer, the expectation is the Oilers captain will do the same — especially since Draisaitl has pushed for it himself.
And with Kyle’s business roots reaching further and further, one has to wonder if that’s another indication of what McDavid’s career plans are, too.
