Monday means a fresh Mailbag, friends. This is the weekly feature where I take your questions and send them off to the crew for their take on whatever is on your mind. This week, we’re talking about Matt Savoie’s chance at the Oilers, speed in the lineup, the new GM, and a lot more. If you’ve got a question you’d like to ask, email it to me at baggedmilk@oilersnation.com or hit me up on Twitter at @jsbmbaggedmilk, and I’ll get to you as quickly as possible.
1) Gregg asks – Jeff Jackson said he’d like a GM in place reasonably soon, so who is your best guess on who that might be?
Jason Gregor:
I honestly don’t have any legit insight on who it is. Jackson has kept his search very quiet, which I respect. I’ve said many times whoever gets the job, couldn’t be in a better position to succeed. He will inherit a very good team. Jackson isn’t afraid to think outside the box, so he might surprise everyone with this hire, but a big question I have is it worth hiring Bowman. Is the distraction worth it?
Baggedmilk:
I’m going to guess Mark Hunter. No reason that I think this will be the case, but I was asked a question so I’m answering as best as I can.
2) Marc asks – Does Matthew Savoie get any games with the Oilers this season? Should he?
Jason Gregor:
Good question. I think it will depend on the Oilers health and how he is playing. There is no need to rush him, and if he dominates and builds confidence in the AHL that is the best place for him.
Baggedmilk:
I say yes he will toward the last quarter of the season, and I also predict that he’ll be productive upon arrival too.

3) Oilers fan in Van asks – The Oilers lost Warren Foegele and Ryan McLeod so far this summer, and I’m wondering if you think the team is getting a little bit slow with some of the older bodies in the lineup?
Jason Gregor:
Arvidsson and Skinner are not slow. Arvidsson is quite quick. If Holloway plays on the third line, he is just as fast as Foegele, maybe quicker. They won’t replace McLeod’s speed down the middle, but with Brown fully healthy, he will add more regular season speed to the lineup than what he had last year. I don’t see Derek Ryan and Corey Perry being on the fourth line come playoff time. Management will need to add more speed there.
Baggedmilk:
I think the speed tapers off the lower you go in the lineup, but I also don’t think the Oilers are slow because they lost McLeod and Foegele. That said, as Gregor mentioned, having Derek Ryan and Corey Perry on that fourth line is like playing in sand.

4) Chandler asks – On Wednesday, Jason Gregor mentioned Jack Michaels calling an ostrich race when introducing him on his show, which not only sounds electric but makes me ask what obscure events/competitions would you love to see Jack call?
Jason Gregor:
If I could go back in time and have him call the Stauffer/Brownlee race, that would be epic.
Baggedmilk:
We’ve got Tyler and Liam set to race in a 100-meter dash this summer, and I think Jack would be the perfect announcer for such an event.
5) Neil asks – What are local teams like the Riverhawks and Stingers doing so well to draw fans in what has often been described as an Oilers-only city?
Jason Gregor:
Both make it about more than just the game. They have good in-game events/competitions and entertainment. Also the teams are both winning, and that always helps bring people back. But, mainly both organizations have done a great job making the games fun and affordable.
Baggedmilk:
I think it’s because there’s so much going on even when the game isn’t being played that it’s almost impossible to not be entertained. Both the Riverhawks and Stingers do a fantastic job of keeping you engaged all at a price point that’s totally reasonable.
