Welcome, Internet friends, to the 2021 NHL Entry Draft weekend! Since the league’s annual fishing derby kicks off tonight, I figured I would put something together with all of the info you need for how to watch, when things start, etc.
For the second straight year, the NHL Draft will once again be done remotely with Gary Bettman announcing everything in the first round, and Bill Daly handling the other rounds. Teams will make their picks from their own offices/wherever via Zoom with the prospects being interviewed in the same way.
Day one of the draft kicks off at 6 pm MT and will be televised on Sportsnet, Sportsnet NOW, TVA Sports, and ESPN2. As for what time the actual picks start, I’m not exactly sure but I imagine there will be the usual preamble and preview before the festivities actually get going. Either way, if you’re settled in for 6 pm then you’ll be in good shape.
Day two will cover rounds two through seven and while the second day does go on a bit longer, the GMs fly through these picks at a much higher rate. The picks on day two will start around 9 am MT, and will be televised on Sportsnet, Sportsnet Now, and the NHL Network.
