Today in 1982, the Edmonton Oilers traded Risto Siltanen and Brent Loney to the Hartford Whalers in exchange for Ken Linseman and Don Nachbaur.

The trade saw Edmonton bring in Linseman who earlier in the day was traded from Philadelphia to the Whalers. While he only played for the Oilers for two years, he was a big part of the team for those two years.

Playing in 144 games, Linseman scored 51 goals and 142 points and in the playoffs, contributed another 16 goals and 28 points in 35 games.

In June 1984, the Oilers traded Linseman to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Mike Krushelnyski. Nachbaur played in four games for the Oilers scoring no points.

Siltanen, meanwhile, had been a key part of the Oilers in their transition from the WHA to the NHL.

He played in the final WHA season scoring seven points in 20 games and over the first three years in the NHL, Siltanen scored 151 points in 206 games.
