Things are heating up with the NHL Trade Deadline approaching on March 6.
On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers made their second trade of the week with the Chicago Blackhawks, acquiring Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach in exchange for Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional first-round pick.
Elsewhere around the Pacific Division, two rivals continued leaning into rebuild mode by moving veteran defencemen to contenders. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Sabres are reportedly exploring a deal to acquire Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues, though it’s unclear whether the St. Albert native will waive his no-movement clause.

Flames move Weegar to Mammoth

Having already traded away Rasmus Andersson earlier in the season, the Calgary Flames moved another key piece from their blueline, sending MacKenzie Weegar to the Utah Mammoth in exchange for Olli Määttä, prospect forward Jonathan Castagna, and three second-round picks in the 2026 draft.
Calgary originally acquired Weegar alongside Jonathan Huberdeau when they traded Matthew Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers in July 2022. The defender signed an eight-year, $50 million extension with the Flames a few months later. Now 32 years old, Weegar remains under contract for five more seasons after this one at $6.25 million annually.
Through parts of ten seasons with the Panthers and Flames, Weegar has recorded 272 points in 610 NHL games while averaging 21:10 of ice time per night. The Ottawa native posted 21 points in 60 games for Calgary this season while carrying a team-worst minus-35 rating.
The Mammoth, who are pushing for a playoff spot in their second season in Utah, add a veteran defender capable of playing heavy minutes in all situations.
The Flames, who sit well out of the playoffs at 24-29-7, have a few other players who could be moved ahead of the deadline on Friday, as Nazem Kadri, Blake Coleman, and Ryan Lomberg all appear on Daily Faceoff’s latest Trade Board.

Stars acquire Myers from Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks are full steam ahead on their march to the bottom of the standings. With captain Quinn Hughes already out of the picture, the team moved veteran defender Tyler Myers to the Dallas Stars on Wednesday in exchange for a second-round pick in 2027 and a fourth-round pick in 2029.
Myers joined the Canucks as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2019, signing a five-year contract worth $30 million. Shortly before that deal expired, the former Calder Trophy winner signed a three-year extension through the 2026-27 season. Vancouver is retaining half of his salary, meaning Dallas will have the Houston native under contract for one more season at $1.5 million.
Selected with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Buffalo Sabres, Myers jumped into the big leagues as a 19-year-old in 2009-10 with 48 points in 82 games, earning the nod as the league’s top rookie. A few years later, he was packaged up with Joel Armia, Brendan Lemieux, and Drew Stafford and moved to the Winnipeg Jets for Zach Bogosian, Evander Kane, and Jason Kasdorf.
Between Buffalo, Winnipeg, and Vancouver, Myers has 403 points over 1,123 NHL games, along with 16 points over 61 playoff games. This season, the 6-foot-8 defender posted eight points and a minus-25 rating in 57 games for the Canucks while logging 20:13 per night.

Sabres trying to trade for Parayko

It appeared another veteran Western Conference defenceman might be on the move Wednesday when TSN’s Darren Dreger reported that the Buffalo Sabres were working toward acquiring Colton Parayko from the St. Louis Blues in a deal involving a first-round pick and top prospect Radim Mrtka.
Though Parayko has been held out of games since returning from the Olympics, a trade is not guaranteed. The 32-year-old carries a full no-movement clause on the eight-year, $52 million contract he signed with the Blues in September 2021, giving him full control over whether he is dealt.
The Sabres are pushing to end the NHL’s longest playoff drought and have been searching for a right-shot defenceman to stabilize their top pairing.
St. Louis selected Parayko in the third round of the 2012 draft out of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, and he made his debut a few years later after three seasons with the University of Alaska–Fairbanks. Through parts of 11 seasons, the 6-foot-6 defender has recorded 309 points in 781 games and helped the Blues capture their first Stanley Cup in 2019.
