It didn’t take much time for Nashville Predators defenceman Dante Fabbro to get picked off by a new team.
On Saturday, the Predators placed the former first-round pick on waivers after he showcased a lack of production throughout six games this season averaging 13 minutes a game with seven shots on goal and plus/minus of -3.
Although the Predators may have been the team who has been eying a productive bottom-pairing defender, the Columbus Blue Jackets were the ones who added a new player to their roster after they claimed Fabbro off waivers on Sunday.

Now a member of the Blue Jackets, Fabbro will be joining Zach Werenski, David Jiricek, and Ivan Provorov as they’re looking to climb further up the standings than last season.
Fabbro has called Nashville home for six years after he was their 17th overall selection in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, playing his first season in 2019-19 when he was slotted in for four games.
Despite starting as a fairly well known name to the Nashville franchise, last season things turned a bit for the defenceman. He was scratched for several games, playing just 56 games throughout the season with three goals and 13 points. In addition, he was sidelined for three of six playoff matches against the Vancouver Canucks.
Throughout six seasons and 315 games Fabbro has scored 16 goals and 72 points with an additional assist in 17 playoff appearances.
Jets make NHL history as the first team to win 14 of the first 15 games
The Winnipeg Jets are flying high.
With their 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars on Saturday, the Jets are now the first team in NHL history to win 14 of their first 15 games of the season.
Their enormous accomplishment isn’t the first record they’ve shaken hands with this season. With their win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday, they became the second team in history to win 13 of their first 14 games, the same achievement the Ottawa Senators achieved back at the start of the 2007-08 season.
Despite their new marking in the history books, many players are having their own success thus far.
Mark Scheiflele and Kyle Connor are tied for most points on the Jets roster with 19, meanwhile, Connor and Nikolaj Ehlers are tied for most goals with nine each. Although you need to score goals to win games, you also have to keep pucks out of the net, which is exactly what Connor Hellebuyck has been doing thus far with an 11-1 record, a 1.83 goals-against average, and a .935 save percentage.
To put things into perspective, the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks reached 14 straight wins with a record of 12-0-3 through their first 15 contests. Those same Blackhawks went on to become the Stanley Cup Champions.
Now with 28 points the Jets are six points ahead of the Minnesota Wild leading both the league and Central division.
Roundtable: Which NHL team needs to shake things up now?
Every year during the NHL’s U.S. Thanksgiving cutoff, contributors predict which teams will make or miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and that time is fast approaching.
Going off what has happened around the league at this point of the season, Daily Faceoff contributors have voiced their thoughts on which team needs to make a trade ASAP.
The Boston Bruins
“Are the Boston Bruins going to keep going about like this with such an uninspiring offensive unit? They’ve done a good job of turning mid-level guys into decent help in recent years, but Cole Koepke, Mark Kastelic, Johnny Beecher and Justin Brazeau shouldn’t be the team’s top 5-on-5 producers,” said Steven Ellis.
“We know what David Pastrnak is capable of, and even a less-than-ideal Brad Marchand is a good hockey player. But the team’s lack of scoring depth has been a major issue, especially when the big guns aren’t doing anything themselves.”
The Colorado Avalanche
“The Colorado Avalancheshare a division with the juggernaut Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars,” said Matt Larkin.
“But the fact they have two of the top three scorers in the NHL right now reminds us of what they can still do if they get some saves. GM Chris MacFarland needs to go goalie shopping before another contender gets a long-term injury in net and becomes competition on the masked man market.”
The New York Islanders
“A mediocre team hoping to squeak into the playoffs going even further all in? With GM Lou Lamoriello’s current roster construction featuring long-term commitments to players nearing or well past 30 years old, it’s a case of “in for a penny, in for a pound,'” Paul Pidutti said.
“With just three regulation wins through 14 outings and the Rangers, Hurricanes, Capitals, and Devils all off to hot starts, it won’t take much for the season to completely get away from Patrick Roy and friends.”
The Nashville Predators
“I know Barry Trotz threatened his team with a rebuild this past week, but who is honestly buying that?” Anthony Di Marco said.
“They spent $100 million this summer, have Roman Josi and Filip Forsberg signed long term, and brought in veterans Luke Schenn and Ryan O’Reilly 15 months ago as UFAs. Like it or nor, Trotz’s only option is to double/triple/quadruple down on remaining competitive.”
Montreal Canadiens
“They certainly aren’t a likely playoff team, so they don’t need to make a move for the sake of winning. But they desperately need help defensively,” said Scott Maxwell.
“They remain the worst team in the league in terms of preventing expected goals, and it’s still at a historically bad rate (although it has marginally improved in recent games).”
