Following the arrest, the Boston Bruins released statements saying the forward would take an “indefinite leave of absence” and he enrolled in the NHL/NHLPA assistance program.
In February, his wife invoked marital privilege, and the charges were dropped against Lucic. According to TMZ, Brittany had filed for divorce two months later in April.
Lucic is currently an unrestricted free agent after his one-year contract with the Bruins, which he signed in July 2023, expired on June 30th. However, as Seravalli reported, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman would have to clear Lucic before he could return to play even though he wasn’t formally suspended.
The Boston Bruins originally selected Lucic as the 50th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. The forward has recorded 233 goals and 586 points across 1177 games and 17 seasons in the NHL split between the Bruins, the Los Angeles Kings, the Edmonton Oilers, and the Calgary Flames. Additionally, he recorded 29 goals and 77 points throughout 136 Stanley Cup playoff games and became a Stanley Cup champion in 2011 with the Bruins.
Carolina Hurricanes announce Tyler Dellow as assistant general manager
On Friday, Carolina Hurricanes general manager Eric Tulskey announced that the club had hired Tyler Dellow as assistant general manager and promoted Darren Yorke to associate general manager.
Dellow spent the previous five years with the New Jersey Devils senior vice president of hockey strategy and analytics as their senior vice president. Additionally, Dellow was a former consultant for the Edmonton Oilers from 2014 to 2016 and aided in analytics for other NHL organizations. He also was a former writer for The Athletic, analyzing games from an analytic perspective, and got his start in hockey writing about the Oilers for his own website.
“Tyler has an encyclopedic knowledge of hockey data and is both creative and detail-oriented in applying it to building understanding of performance and tactics,” Tulsky said in a release on Friday.
“He is also an attorney with extensive experience in negotiation and a strategic thinker who sees the big picture. Tyler is a strong manager who cares deeply about employee development.”
As per the Hurricanes release, Dellow’s new position requires him to oversee data analysis and compliance with the NHL’s salary cap and collective bargaining agreement.
Similar to Dellow, Tuslky has a background in the tedious work of analytics. He was formerly the Hurricanes’ manager of hockey analytics before being promoted to assistant general manager in 2020.
As for Yorke, the upcoming 2024-24 campaign will mark his 16th season with the Hurricanes organization after joining the team back in 2009 as a video scout. Additionally, Yorke has also held the role of manager of scouting, director of player personnel, and assistant general manager, the role he served for the past three seasons. His new position will also make him responsible for the Hurricanes American Hockey League affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, as their general manager.
“Darren has been instrumental in overhauling the way we draft and develop players,” Tulsky said.
“In addition to his keen eye for players, he has a strong instinct for organizational process and a thorough understanding of every element of team operations. I am supremely confident that Darren is deserving of an increased role, and I’m proud to work alongside him.”
Yorke will oversee the Wolves’ day-to-day operations and will continue to be involved in amateur scouting, the team’s draft, player development, and player personnel decisions.
