<p>The Ottawa Senators will hold onto their first-round pick this year, kicking the can down the road on a required forfeiture.</p>

<p>The punishment comes in response to a botched trade between the Vegas Golden Knights and Anaheim Ducks. At the 2022 trade deadline, Vegas tried to trade Evgenii Dadonov west, but a no-trade clause they weren&#8217;t aware of prevented the deal from going through.</p>
<p>A league investigation found the Senators weren&#8217;t forthright with the Golden Knights about Dadonov&#8217;s trade protection when they sent him there in a July 2021 trade. One of the Senators&#8217; first round picks in 2024, 2025 or 2026 needed to be forfeited as a result.</p>

<p>Former Edmonton Oilers executive Scott Howson has signed a multi-year extension with the American Hockey League <a href="https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/news/scott-howson-agrees-to-multi-year-extension-as-ahl-president-and-ceo" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to remain its president and CEO</a>.</p>
<p>Howson, who has been with the league since 2020 when he was unanimously selected as their 10th president, has spent over two decades in the NHL previously with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Oilers.</p>
<p class="mb-4 text-lg">“The Board of Governors is pleased to extend Scott Howson as President and CEO of the American Hockey League,” said<a class="text-secondary underline underline-offset-2" href="https://theahl.com/howson-multi-year-extension" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> Laurence Gilman</a>, senior vice president/governor of the Toronto Marlies and chair of the AHL’s Executive Committee. “Under Scott’s leadership, he has maintained a commitment to a high standard of excellence on and off the ice. We look forward to working together towards the continued success of the AHL.”</p>
<p>Howson played in the AHL in the mid-80&#8217;s, later joining the Oilers&#8217; AHL affiliate in Cape Breton as their general manager in 1994. He followed the team to Hamilton in 1996, and later worked as the Oilers&#8217; assistant general manager from 2000 through 2007.</p>
<p>After that 2006-07 season, the Columbus Blue Jackets hired Howson as their general manager, where he spent six seasons. Fired in February 2013, he swiftly rejoined the Oilers as a pro scout for the rest of the season before being promoted to senior vice-president of hockey operations ahead of the 2013-14 campaign. He held the role for three years, before in 2016-17 he was a pro scout again for one year, before then spending the next three as Edmonton&#8217;s director of player development.</p>
