A former Edmonton Oiler could be traded ahead of the March 6th trade deadline.
With the Vancouver Canucks well out of the race for a postseason berth, it appears that they’ll be selling in a little over a month. Having already traded franchise defenceman Quinn Hughes and forward Kiefer Sherwood, other players who are impending free agents or have any value at all, could be traded to chase a Stanley Cup elsewhere.
One of those players happens to be former Oilers forward Evander Kane. According to Donnie and Dhali’s Rick Dhaiwal, Kane’s agent Dan Milstein, has been given permission by the Canucks to find a trade for his client.

Last off-season, the Oilers shipped Kane to the Canucks for a 2025 fourth-round pick, used to select David Lewandowski. That pick was originally acquired by the Oilers in the Xavier Bourgault deal in the 2024 off-season, but was traded to the Canucks for Vasily Podkolzin.
In his first season for his hometown team, Kane has nine goals and 24 points in 51 games, which is on pace for 14 goals and 38 points. Those 14 goals would match a career low that he established in his rookie season with the Atlanta Thrashers in 2009-10.
Kane had a successful career with the Oilers, scoring 62 goals and 111 points in 161 games with the team, missing about half of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 season, while missing the entirety of the 2024-25 regular season. Moreover, Kane is a solid playoff performer, scoring 26 goals and 42 points in 68 games with the Oilers over the last four seasons.
The 34-year-old is in the final season of his four-year deal and has a cap hit of $5.125 million. Kane also has trade protection, as he has a 16 team trade list, meaning he can’t be traded to 15 teams without waiving that modified no-trade clause.
According to The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta, the Canucks are looking for “a prospect and/or draft pick” in return, and will be willing to retain a portion of his salary. He didn’t list any teams, but noted that a few teams in the Eastern Conference have been in talks regarding the power forward.
It doesn’t seem like the Oilers are one of them. Earlier this off-season, Dhaliwal reported that the Canucks had tried to send Kane back to the Oilers, with the Oilers apparently believing that “the ship has sailed”. That said, it does appear like he’ll be traded, as The Fourth Period’s Dennis Bernstein reported that the Los Angeles Kings have spoken to the Canucks about Kane.
Other teams that have been like to Kane are the Western Conference’s Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, as ESPN’s Kevin Weekes reported that last week.
