The @Edmonton Oilers have announced that forward @Joakim Nygard will be out for 2-4 weeks due to a rib injury.
Nygard has 1 goal in six games, and was averaging 10:15 of ice time with the Oilers so far this season, and seemed to be starting to look comfortable playing in the NHL for the first time in his career.
The Swede came over from the SweHL over the offseason, and was one of many low-risk signings that GM Ken Holland made over the summer to add some more skill and speed to the lineup.
@Patrick Russell has been tapped to take Nygard’s spot in the lineup, with @Gaetan Haas skating as the extra forward at practice.
The Oilers take on the @Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Rogers Place, with Russell projected to skate on the fourth line with @Jujhar Khaira and @Riley Sheahan on the fourth line in tonight’s game. @Mikko Koskinen is starting in goal.
Puck drop is at 7:30pm MST.
