Corey Perry reached a major milestone in his career when he took to the ice for Game 4 of the first-round series against the Kings.
It marked the 200th playoff game of his illustrious career, making him only the 24th player in league history to reach this exclusive club. He is also the only active player in the league to be part of this group as the two most recent members Zdeno Chara and Marian Hossa have long retired.
The only other active players remotely close to joining this group are Ryan McDonagh (189 games) and Joe Pavelski (185), which shows how difficult it is to appear in that many playoff games. Perry was able to do so because not only has he missed the playoffs just three times in his career (the most recent time being the 2018-19 season) but he also went on at least four deep playoff runs where he was a key contributor. Three of those have come in recent years where he went to the Finals in consecutive seasons but came up short every time.
Simply put, this is a guy who has seen it all when the games matter most and that is a major factor in why he is currently a member of the Oilers.
To say that this ongoing campaign has been a tumultuous one for the 38-year-old would be a massive understatement. He started the season on the Blackhawks but was controversially cut from the team after an alcohol-fueled incident at a team function. The case was eventually settled between him, the team, and the league before going on to sign in Edmonton where has been a useful bottom-six player while also providing leadership.
Perry has racked up 22 points (12 goals and 10 assists) in a combined 54 games played split between the Blackhawks and Oilers. He has gone scoreless through the first three games of the series against Los Angeles so far.
