Leon Draisaitl once again cemented his place in the NHL record books when he recorded an assist on an Evander Kane goal Saturday night.

As the Oilers faithful were singing Livin’ on a Prayer as loud as they could, Draisaitl won a faceoff clean, getting the puck to Kane at the top of the faceoff circle. He fired a quick shot that beat Artus Silvos. While there may have been some fans in attendance annoyed that they could not finish singing the lyrics, a goal that helped further solidify the win and also created NHL history more than makes up for it.

The record in question sees Draisaitl become the third-fastest player ever to reach 100 career playoff points, which he achieved in 60 postseason games. The only two players to have achieved this quicker than him are Wayne Gretzky (46 games) and Mario Lemieux (50), while also beating out Jarri Kurri who did it in 67 games. It is quite an exclusive company for Draisaitl to be in and an achievement that further solidifies that he is one of the best ever to play this sport.

To be able to have gotten this done on the same night Edmonton emphatically forced a Game 7 is sure to feel good for him. After all, he is a big part of their success and few players in the world can slow Draisatil down when he is in a groove. That is especially the case when the playoffs roll around because he has proven time and time again that he shines the brightest when the stakes are high and is rarely the reason why the Oilers have yet to reach the summit during this era.

If Edmonton wants to keep their season going and secure a date with the Stars in the Western Conference Finals, they must rely on Draisaitl leading the charge offensively alongside Connor McDavid (who also had a strong Game 6). Performances like the one we saw from him on Saturday night, when he picked up two assists, will go a long way in getting this city one step closer to their beloved team winning their first Cup since 1990.

But first, he and the Oilers must-win Game 7 on Monday night.
