The Edmonton Oilers will be trying to close out their season series with Toronto on a winning note when they face off against the Maple Leafs on Monday as +135 road underdogs on the NHL odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.
Edmonton squandered an early two-goal lead in the first game of this two-game series on Saturday, eventually falling 4-3 in overtime, and is now winless in four straight meetings with Toronto going into Monday night’s matchup at Scotiabank Arena.
Oilers vs Maple Leafs | OddsShark Matchup Report
With Saturday’s defeat the Oilers now sport a dismal 2-5-1 record in eight dates with the Maple Leafs this season. The Oilers have also extended their long-time woes when visiting Toronto, where they have picked up just two wins in 11 meetings since December 2010, according to the OddsShark NHL Database.
Despite enjoying an unscheduled five-day break in their schedule after seeing last week’s three-game series in Montreal postponed over COVID-19 fears, the Oilers struggled to keep pace with Toronto on Saturday. Edmonton were fortunate to seize an early lead, scoring three times on four first-period shots, but wilted in the face of the Maple Leafs’ comeback, mustering just six total shots on goal over the third period and extra frame.
Overall, the Oilers managed to put just 20 shots on the Toronto goal in Saturday’s contest, which marks the team’s lowest shot total in a game since November 2019. And with limited scoring opportunities, the team has now scored just four total goals during its four-game slide against the Maple Leafs, and has potted more than two markers just twice in its past nine road dates with Toronto. Despite those trends, the OVER has gone 3-1-1 on the totals over the past five matchups between these teams at Scotiabank Arena.
The Oilers’ slump against Toronto has emerged as a huge obstacle in their bid to climb to the top of the North Division standings, where the Maple Leafs continue to lead the way, three points up on third-place Edmonton. In addition, Saturday’s defeat marked the team’s third loss in four road outings, ending a six-game win streak.
Now riding a three-game win streak, the Maple Leafs wrap things up against Edmonton on Monday as -155 home favourites at online sports betting sites. Toronto’s hot streak comes on the heels of its longest slump of the season, a 1-6-0 run that threatened to bounce the team from the top of the divisional standings. The Maple Leafs still have work to do to overcome their recent inconsistency on home ice. The team’s current two-game surge marks its first home win streak since mid-February. However, Toronto enjoys a 5-1-0 record so far this season in the final date of multi-game series played on home ice.
