An online petition is calling for EA Sports to honour the late Colby Cave as the cover player for NHL 21.
The petition, started by Ethan Hartman two days ago, has garnered nearly 9,000 signatures by mid-Monday afternoon. Here’s what Hartman wrote on the petition:
Colby Cave was by all accounts a fantastic teammate, a wonderful person and an amazing hockey player. He always took time to meet with fans, and was a very humble person. With his unfortunate and tragic passing, we think it would be only fitting for him to grace the cover of NHL 21 as a tribute to his career and his love for the game of hockey.
Cave, 25, died Saturday morning after suffering a brain bleed due to a colloid cyst. An outpouring of support for his widow, Emily, and his family members have poured in during the recent days.
Today, Cave’s parents and Emily are returning to Saskatchewan where a parade of cars is lined up to welcome them home.
