The Edmonton Oilers will be carrying a cap overage of $670,000, PuckPedia.com reports.
According to PuckPedia, the overage can go two ways for Edmonton. First, Edmonton could eat the full overage this upcoming season, or secondly, they could split it over the next two seasons.
The news will make a tight cap situation ever so tighter for Edmonton, who would enter the offseason with a shade under $9.5-million should they take the overage this season.
Mike Smith got the largest bonus’ this offseason, according to PuckPedia. He received a $500k bonus for playing 35 games with over 30 minutes plus a pro-rated $250k to $213,415 as the games played was pro-rated from 40.
Gaetan Haas received a $212,500 bonus for being one of the top three Oilers in +/-. Caleb Jones got a $26k bonus for games played, while Bear for a $19k bonus for pro-rated games played.
While the cap impacts won’t be massive, the truth of the matter is that every dollar is so important given multiple years of a flat cap.
