The NHL might be pulling a fast one on the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights by bumping game two to Saturday night.
The series, set to kick off on Wednesday in Sin City, was supposed to feature game two on Friday night. News of the potential change was first reported by Sportsnet’s Mark Spector.
The potential reason for the change? The league is looking to get the Oilers an afternoon game, according to Jason Gregor. He shares what the potential new schedule could look like in this tweet below.
It would mean that the Oilers would get home games on May 8 and May 10, but the problem is that rock band Disturbed is set to play on the 10th. There are a few workarounds to this.
The easiest could be just to keep what would be the original schedule of playing every other day and have game six, in Edmonton, played in the afternoon. But the caveat there could be the NHL’s desire to know for certain the afternoon game could be played. After all, while unlikely, this series could be over in five games.
It’s a weird situation to say the least, and a story to follow in the coming days. At the very least, we know game one will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
