SURVIVAL

The Edmonton Oilers need to shore up the defense and it sounds like help
is on the way. Brandon Davidson spoke to the media today and had some
good news.
is on the way. Brandon Davidson spoke to the media today and had some
good news.
Brandon Davidson has had a tough run of injuries since arriving in the NHL and it is a legitimate concern. As good as he is—and Davidson is a fine young blue—staying healthy is job one.

The maladies vary and this season it is a shoulder problem. The good news today came from Davidson:
- Davidson: “Things have gone really well over the
last couple of weeks here,” he said. “I felt I was able to get into
practice here over the last few days. That’s a good sign that things are
moving forward. I think it’s safe to say within a week or weeks kind of
thing. Things are coming up here. I’m excited to get going. I missed
the last little bit of last season and the start of this season so it’s
been a while for me. At the same time, it has been very motivating and a
very good time for me to reflect and work on a few things off the ice.” Source
Davidson is a bit of a forgotten player due to the early injury but make no mistake he has high value. Consider his Corsi Rel from last season:
Davidson ranked No. 8 across the league in Corsi Rel and that is a very good place to be (as reflected by the quality of the defensemen around him). Ideally, Davidson slides in on the Sekera pairing and Todd McLellan has three pairings he can roll for moving forward.
When he gets back, I hope Davidson is more aggressive when it comes to cheap shots and borderline hits. I am not blood thirsty, but if this is the approach of the NHL’s clean players
Then Brandon Davidson is probably going to need to get a little filthy. Seriously.
